CPAT

The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) is used by most California fire departments to assess an individual’s ability to handle the physical demands of firefighting. Participants must navigate eight (8) job-specific events within 10:20. Those who pass receive the Cal-JAC Card of Completion.

Written

The FCTC Written Test is a 100 question, multiple choice test consisting of the following four sections:

  • Recall and Comprehend Verbal and Visual Information. This section requires candidates to watch two short videos and answer questions based on the scenarios presented.
  • Apply Mechanical Reasoning
  • Solve Mathematical Problems
  • Recall and Comprehend Technical Information from Written Materials

Candidates have 2.5 hours to complete the test.
